Video: Chereponi NPP supporters beat party chairman to a near death over DCE nomination

Some supporter of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in chereponi constituency of the North East Region have attacked the party Chairman over the District Chief Executive (DCE) nomination.

A video spotted by Coverghana.com.gh saw some Constituents believed to be NPP supporters reportedly chasing and beating their party Chairman.

In the same video, the NPP supporters were seen vandalizing and destroying properties, especially anything branded with NPP colours.

This happened few hours after the MMDCEs list of nominees were released by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe at a press conference on Sunday, 19th September, 2021.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Zuwera Mada Nashiru as the District Chief Executive of the Chereponi District.

The aggrieved party supporters rejected the nomination and wanted their favourite candidate S.K Orlando to be nominated.

According to the people, they do not like the President’s DCE nominee, Zuwera Nashiru hence, the decision to go violence.

Reports suggested that, it took the Chereponi District Police command to quickly deployed security personnel to the ground to calm the situation.

In a report, it’s said, “The Chereponi District Police Command upon receipt of the information quickly invited the Chereponi Constituency Chairman, Aliu Sulemana and some of the youth leaders, and after discussing, the Chairman of the youth leaders realized the need to keep the peace and abide by the advice of the police not to proceed with the demonstration. They also promised to go by the Public Order Act and notify the police accordingly, should they intend to organize the demonstration.”
