Vodafone sells majority stake in Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Group

Telecommunications company Telecel Group has successfully obtained regulatory approval and the agreement of the Government of Ghana to acquire Vodafone Ghana from Vodafone Group, a move that presents new opportunities for the company.

Vodafone Ghana, including its three subsidiaries – National Communication Backbone Company Limited (Vodafone Wholesale), Vodafone Ghana Mobile Financial Services Limited (Vodafone Cash), and the Vodafone Ghana Foundation – will continue to operate uninterrupted.

Telecel Group, which was founded in 1986 and operates mainly in Africa, views Ghana as a vital market with unlimited potential for digitalization and innovation. Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Vodafone Ghana, stated the change presented an opportunity to explore new areas of growth and further develop innovative products and services.

The sale of Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Group is also part of Vodafone’s plan to simplify its African portfolio.
