The Electoral Commission of Ghana under the leadership of Mrs Jean Mensah has issued a has issued a press release reacting to rumours that the Biometric Voters Registration Kits were the old obsolete ones.
According to the Electoral Commission, some “individuals have made it their avowed duty to mislead the public on the Commission’s work and processes” and that “right from the piloting stage, it had been said that the Biometric Voters Registration Kits were the old obsolete ones which is an outright lie.
The Commission added that, it would have ignored the lies being peddled; however it owes it a duty to its key stakeholders, especially the citizenry to inform them about the truth and the facts and that as part of the Commission’s procurement of a new Biometric Voter Management System, 8500 Biometric Voter Registration Kits were procured from Thales, all of which have been received and deployed into the field. Indeed the new Kits currently in use are completely different from the old ones in terms of look, appearance and functionality. As a Commission we will continue to provide information to the public based on truth and facts.”
