The Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has descended heavily on the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by their flagbearer Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the party’s 2016 National Campaign Launch at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, 14th August, 2016.
In a trending video that resurfaced after the sadden demise of the Former President Jerry John Rawlings captures him delivery a solidarity message at the party’s National Campaign Launch where he dragged the integrity of the opposition New Patriotic Party into the muddy waters.

Speaking at the Campaign Launch, the former head of state of the Republic of Ghana said, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot be underestimated. He then affirmed his claims with the gathering by saying “You know it, I know it”.
According to Rawlings, the New Patriotic Party has been in existence for a very long time and they have been changing their names up to this day. “The nature of who they are, what they are, where they come from, is something they are happy with, and they will be there for a very long time.”

Speaking further, the NDC’s founder cautioned the members of his party not to mimic the behaviour of members of the New Patriotic Party. “Let us reach into the principle and the value that came, that emerge out of the second.. that gave birth to us. And if we can hold unto those principles, and those values, we will move ways into the future. We will ride and over ride any any obstacles like we did in the past.” He advised.
The first president of the fourth (4th) Republic of Ghana met his untimely death after a short illness. His death which was reported on Thursday, 12th November, 2020 occurred at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra while receiving treatment.

His death has created a moody and sad atmosphere in Ghana and some part of West Africa with heartbreaking comments. In the midst of consoling the family, friends and loved ones of the late former president, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party government led by President Akufo-Addo for hijacking all activities leading to the burial of their founder as if he (Rawlings) was a former leader of the NPP.
The leadership of the National Democratic Congress is worried over the attitude of the governing New Patriotic Party and went ahead to announced a parallel date to hold series of events including vigil in honour of their founder.

In an interview sighted by Coverghana.com.gh, the general secretary of NDC Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said, they will not honour the seven days commemoration announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo. According to him, the celebration of their founder begins immediately on Sunday, 15th November, 2020 at Kwame Nkrumah Circle at exactly 5:30pm.
