The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the North Tongu Constituency Honourable Richard Collins Arku has vowed to defeat the incumbent Member of Parliament Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in the December 2020 polls.
Hon. Richard Collins Arku who is the current District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region is confident of setting an unprecedented record in the history of the constituency which has never happened since 1992.
North Tongu Constituency is one of the strong holds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region. Reports available suggest that, the Parliamentary seat of the Constituency has never been won by any NPP Parliamentary Candidate since the creation of the District.
But, Honourable Richard Collins Arku popularly known by some constituents as a ‘Darling Boy” vowed to break the trend of leadership in the Constituency.
Meanwhile, Richard Collins Arku lost massively to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in the 2016 Parliamentary election with 3.09% against 75.49%
Richard Collins Arku who was appointed in 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as DCE and was first rejected by Assembly Members until the second election where he was finally endorsed believes that, his current achievements under NPP administration surpass all past DCEs of previous governments in the District.
Speaking to Onua FM on Thursday, 20th August, 2020 monitored by Coverghana.com.gh, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the area disclosed that, they are putting in much efforts at the grassroots to unseat the incumbent MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa because, the people are yearning for change due to his achievements void of tribal or partisan lines.
The peoples “Darling Boy” maintained that, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his opponent have done little for the people when it comes to infrastructural development since 1992, even though the constituents have been loyal to the party over decades. According to him, the call of the people will change the status quo.

“We are working seriously, I am telling you. There are a lot of things happening if you get to the grassroots and I am confident I am going to win the seat for the first time.
“I have been the people’s darling boy and I am telling them to support me till the end and vote for me and President Akufo-Addo so that we complete what we have started in transforming North Tongu.”
Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was first elected as the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency in December 2012 after he was appointed by the late President Professor John Evan Atta-Mills as Deputy Information Minister.
He was reelected by the people of North Tongu in the December 2016 election. Mr. Ablakwa is currently in the race with other Parliamentary Candidates for the North Tongu Constituency seat campaigning seriously towards the December 2020 polls in order to maintain the seat for the NDC.
