Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, Hon. Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome has reiterated that, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has abandoned construction of major roads in the South Tongu District.

He believes that, the New Patriotic Party government has abandoned projects including major roads he had lobbied for South Tongu immediately John Dramani Mahama NDC-led government lost political power in 2016 to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The MP further denied some allegations and speculations that, previous NDC government has had the opportunity to construct the Agave road when they were in power but failed.

Explaining further, he said, it is not his duty as an MP to personally construct roads in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

According to the Lawmaker, Members of Parliament are only mandated to lobby for the general development of their Constituency including construction of roads among many. The MP added that, he has been performing these roles since he was elected MP for the South Tongu Constituency, an effort which has contributed largely to construction of some key projects including major roads within the Constituency.

Mr. Woyome again noted that, the Agave road among many would have been completed had they (NDC) retained power.

“John Dramani Mahama NDC government awarded the Agave roads, contractors were deployed and construction works began before the NDC was voted out of power in the December 2016 polls. Since NPP came to power, they have abandoned all the roads and other projects we have started” He explained.

Mr. Woyome said, former President John Dramani Mahama had called on the then Minister for Roads and Highways for a variation to the contract awarded for Agave road to cater for the construction of the Gonu roads which was expected to be done but unfortunately he lost power in 2016.

He indicated that, although he feels the sitting government might not listen to the plights of the people of South Tongu, he will continue lobbying for these roads untill they are done.

He reassured the Constituents that, should NPP government failed to complete the roads the previous NDC govermment started, the next NDC government will ensure that, abandoned projects in general including roads will be completed.

Mr. Woyome said this while addressing road conditions in some part of his Constituency at a Town Hall meeting and Thank You Tour which he began on Monday, 12th April 2021.
