The National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate of the Effutu Constituency Mr. James Kofi Annan has been charged by the Winneba District Magistrate Court for using an abusive words which is intent to provoke breach of the peace or whereby a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned.
In the Court statement issued by the Prosecution Officers, on 21st July, 2020, the founder of Challenging Heights, and a major financier of the New Patriotic Party in the Effutu Constituency who resigned from the party and joined the NDC in a letter to the party, dated July 1, 2019, James Kofi Annan was allegedly charged guilty for using an abusive words on the complaint Samuel Asiedu Okanta, the Municipal Police Complainant of Winneba.

According to the police reports, the “Complainant Samuel Asiedu Okanta was chairing a voter registration challenge committee at latter days saint at Winneba Junction when suddenly the accused James Kofi Annan walked in and asked the Municipal Electoral Commissioner why the committee has started the hearing without the representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”
After asking the question, it was established that “The complainant approached him (the accused) and said, he was the chairman of the committee
therefore if the accused has any grievances he should address him.”
In a response to the statement, the accused said “IF YOU ARE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE AND SO WHAT, YOU
ARE THE REASON WHY WE ARE NOT ENJOYING PEACE IN WINNEBA TOWN” since he was not satisfied.
According to reports available to Coverghana.com.gh, the accused was arrested and after investigations brought before the Winneba District Magistrate Court.

On 21 July 2020 at 0930 hours, Complainant was chairing a voter registration challenge committee at latter days saint at Winneba Junction when suddenly the accused walked in and asked the Municipal Electoral Commissioner why the committee has started the hearing without the representative of NDC, the complainant approached him and said, he was the chairman of the committee
therefore if the accused has any grievances he should address him.
The statement of the complainant did not go down well with the accused and he replied to wit “IF YOU ARE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE AND SO WHAT, YOU
