South Tongu District branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has unveiled plans for its 2021 Delegates Conference.

According to the District Council of the Association, this year’s upcoming Delegates Conference will come off in new styles including but not limited to intensive discussion of resolutions passed by the five administrative locals within the District thus; Larve local, Dabala local, Danyikpo local, Tefle-Agave local, Sogakope local (So-GNAT), sensitization of members and election of executive officers to take over leadership role for the District in the next four years.

According to the District GNAT Secretary Ms. Victoria Esinam Hommey, this year’s conference will be honoured by key personalities in GNAT from the Regional Secretariat and beyond including Dr. Mrs. Marie Afua Bakah, a Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) as the Guest Speaker on the theme.

She added that, the opening ceremony will be chaired by Rev. Joy Kwabla Akpebu the Headmaster of Dabala Senior High Technical School (DASTECH), an astute and staunt member of the Association for many decades while the South Tongu District Director of Education Ms. Evelyn Araba Zentey will grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.


The upcoming 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 26th May, 2021 at the Global Evangelical Church, Sogakope in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

Ms. Victoria Esinam Hommey further said, after the opening ceremony and discussion of resolutions, the District Ghana National Association of Teachers Elections Committee (GNATEC) will take over to conduct election for aspirants.

She reinstated that, the theme for the conference is “GNAT@90. Surviving as a reliable and vibrant teacher union in the 21st century: Seeking the welfare of the Ghanaian teacher”

The District GNAT Secretary appealed to all accredited delegates to make it a priority to attend the conference. She also extended invitation to members within the District to witness this year’s conference as scheduled but shall not have the status of accredited delegates at conference.
