The District Director of Education Evelyn Araba Zentey (Ms.) has explained how the heavy rainstorm destroyed roofs of some Basic School buildings in the South Tongu District of the Volta region.
In a short briefing monitored by Coverghana.com.gh, the Director said, on the day of the disaster, staff of GES including her have embarked on a general monitoring exercise to some schools within the District. Surprisingly, on their return, they met a heavy rainstorm that destroyed roofs of some school buildings in the District.
She expressed worry over the disaster because, the schools are facing numerous challenges including inadequate classrooms among others and another one has added up.
According to her, the harm caused by the disaster has compelled them to temporarily close some schools especially Dzebetato D/A Basic School and a section of some affected Schools. She noted that, until the roofs are fixed back, the children cannot come to school.
Madam Araba Zentey further said, the pupils have lost almost one year because of Covid-19 pandemic. At the time they are trying hard to normalize situations for effective teaching and learning, the disaster has cut them off from coming to school again.
