Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has clarified why many people see him working than his colleague Members of Parliament in the Tongu enclaves.

Speaking on Sela Radio on 3rd May, 2022 during the three Tongu MPs engagements geared towards accounting to the people on Parliamentary duties and responsibilities, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa clarified that, his colleague Members of Parliament thus; Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome – MP for South Tongu and Hon. Gabby Alexander Hottordze – MP for Central Tongu are really working to expectation.

He explained that, he is being overrated ahead of his colleague MPs because of his active social media engagements, adding that, such does not mean his colleague MPs are not working.

Mr. Ablakwa indicated that, his active social media presence is quite strong, that is why such impression is being created that, he is working than Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome and Hon. Gabby Alexander Hottordze, but that is not the case.

Address the issue, he said “I am very active on social media, the last time, the Speaker of Parliament said, I am one of the most active MPs on social media.”

“I enjoy a lot of publicity on social media. Not all MPs have account on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Other MPs have but not everything they upload on social media. Some are not that active on social media.” He said.

He further said, “even though, I will encourage my colleagues to be active on social media, because, most of the youth go to social media for their news. Traditional media such as TV, radio are not mostly prioritize by the youth because of the use of mobile phone to access every information.” Most of the people access breaking news using their mobile phone and later get confirmation on either TV or Radio.”

“That does not mean that, my colleague MPs are not working. They are doing a lot. I have accompanied my colleagues to inaugurate some projects in their constituency to support them with their interventions.” Ablakwa clarified.

Justifying his position on the subject matter, he said, even in the morning when he arrived in Sogakope ahead of the programme, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome was meeting with the Muslim community doing donations but, he has not uploaded it to the social media for publicity.


“I am yet to do mine. I informed my Muslim community that, I will be at Sela Radio this morning, so I will do my presentation later at Aveyime Zongo.”

“My colleague MPs are working, they are doing a lot. Hon. Gabby has his agent in the field doing their donations, but, it’s likely that, at the end of the day, I may put mine on Facebook and Twitter while they may not and impression will be created that, only me made donation but that is not the case” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa explained.

The Lawmaker added that, sometimes, even his wife criticize him for abusing social media. He noted that, because of his background in information management and having served in government communications team and still at the communications team, while dealing with opponents who engage in a lot of propaganda, if you are not on the alert and monitoring social media, they can put a lot of negative propaganda against you and your government.

Secondly, the MP said, to be fair to his colleague MPs, he has served in government before and his first term is government as MP, he was Deputy Minister of Education.

Since education was a priority to President John Dramani Mahama, most of John Mahama’s flagship programmes in the education sector including E-blocks, massive projects in Universities, Colleges of Education etc were supervised by him. Because of such projects, he was able to lobbied for most developmental projects in his Constituency.
