The Minister Designate for Communications and Digitization, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful says her Ministry did not target the closure of any specific radio station.
According to her, she only instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to ensure that all radio stations which had defaulted in renewing their license are sanctioned, adding that the exercise was across board with no specific radio stations targeted.
Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful disclosed this to the Parliament’s appointments committee during her vetting.
During Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s regime as the Communications Minister, about fifty-one (51) commercial FM Stations and five (5) community radio stations were shutdown.
The vetting, which lasted for about five hours, saw questions on the closure of the radio stations taking the centre stage.
